Lyrics

Up on the ridge

I watch it all roll in

Sunset to sunrise

You know just where I've been

I found the lodestar

Now I see everything

The moon birds drift on the peppermint wind

Oooooo uh-uh-uh [ x 4 ]

Down on the lake

Oh I'm imagining

Out on the water

I close my eyes and sing

I'm travelling up and away

On a gust of wind

And down to Baker Lane

Down to Baker Lane

Baker Lane, Baker Lane [ x 2 ]

Oooooo uh-uh-uh [ x 4 ]

Up on the ridge

Oh I see everything

A view like no other

I wish you could take it in

I'm travelling up and away

On a gust of wind

And down to Baker Lane

Down to Baker Lane

Baker Lane

Baker Lane is the name of a tiny street in St Andrews (Fife, Scotland), connecting two of the town's main streets (Market Street and South Street). When I lived there as a student, Baker Lane became one of my favourite spots. The cliffs of the Fife Coastal Path, looking out onto the North Sea, are just a kilometre or so away.

This song is basically about space - our need for both enclosed spaces (for comfort) and open spaces (for perspective!).
